FOUNDER TROY COLLIER

Faith Recovery was founded in 1979 by Rev. Troy Collier, after 10 years of outreach to the Newport News area from programs he founded in Little Rock, AR.  Once an alcoholic himself, Rev. Collier, founded the 22nd Teen Challenge in the U.S. back in the 1960's. Today there are well over 300 TC centers nationwide, over 1000 internationally.  Rev. Collier's heart to bring hope to the hopeless drove his passion to see lives changed. After receiving a phone call from Newport News resident asking him to come to Newport News to the aide of a young heroin addict named, Jimmy, Troy began coming to Virginia to bring young men back to his program in Little Rock.  After 10 years of working closely with Newport News courts, Rev. Collier came to Newport News for good and founded Faith Recovery

In 1979, Faith Recovery began in a small building in Newport News and later expanded to a 39,000 sqft. facility which serves as our Hope Center and includes our Men's Home and administrative offices.  Today, Faith Recovery serves the entire Hampton Roads region, Southside and Peninsula.  For 36 years, Rev. Collier, faithfully served the Hampton Roads community until July 2015 when he passed away at age 87.  Rev. Collier was recognized with many community awards including Newport News Citizen of the Year. Because of one man's heart and his obedience to God, thousands of lives have been impacted by Rev. Collier's work, and even though he is no longer with us, his legacy will continue to impact lives for many years to come.
