As we approach the end of 2023, we reflect on the landscape of SUD treatment industry and the mission of Recovery Centers of America to provide neighborhoods accessible, holistic addiction treatment solutions that are tailored specifically for each person’s needs and circumstances.
Addiction is a disease that has left no generation or demographic of America untouched in 2023. While there is progress and a growing understanding of the interconnectedness of addiction and mental health, the impacts of substance use disorder remains a significant concern as ever.
Even with the onset of the pandemic years behind us, many individuals and families are still feeling the lingering effects on of pandemic-induced surge in alcohol use. It is important to note that 60% of Americans who struggle with drug or alcohol addiction are employed according to National Survey on Drug Use and Health. This statistic underscores the need for workplace intervention and support, as addiction can severely impact an individual’s job performance and personal life. An increasing need for outpatient services are required for many to receive treatment while attending to life and daily responsibilities.
Gen-Z are affected by addiction in a way that is unprecedented. A 2018 Berenberg Research report, in fact, found Gen-Z consumes alcohol less than any other generation, however the mental health repercussions of the pandemic, combined with increased accessibility to over-the-counter substances, have had a profound effect on substance abuse in young people. The CDC evidenced 15% of high school students who reported having used substances like kratom, cocaine, inhalants, heroin, methamphetamines, hallucinogens, or ecstasy. Not to mention an increase and accessibility to legal substances such as kratom that are dangerously addictive while SUD and payors work to bridge the gap for substance specific treatment programs.
Fortunately, there is a growing awareness of the correlation of addiction, mental health, and overall well-being. Recovery Centers of America is pioneering and leading the conversation on our iHeart Podcast, “Recovery 360” to continue to reduce the stigma and increase the availability of treatment. More resources are being dedicated to prevention and harm reduction strategies, including evidence-based interventions like medication for addiction treatment (MAT) and cognitive-behavioral therapy, which are key components to the Recovery Centers of America continuum of care.
Ultimately, Recovery Centers of America knows addressing addiction and substance abuse requires a multi-faceted approach that integrates medical, psychological, social, and cultural considerations. By working together and leveraging the latest research and evidence-based treatment, Recovery Centers of America can better support individuals, families and neighborhoods affected by addiction and help them achieve lasting recovery and wellness.
